Google review management software: the three jobs
Google review management software does three jobs: asking customers for reviews, replying to them and watching for removed or fake ones. Google's own tools cover the basics at $0, with a review link, a QR code and replies once the business is verified. A paid tool earns its price on request volume, reply drafting or monitoring.
For a plumber who answers reviews from a phone between jobs, replying is the job that matters, so reply drafts count for more than request campaigns.

Asking for reviews by email and SMS within Google's rules
Google lets you ask customers for genuine reviews with its review link or QR code. Its policy bars practices such as:
- incentives such as payment, discounts or free goods in exchange for a review
- selectively asking likely-positive customers, or discouraging negative reviews
- requiring or pressuring customers to review while they are on your premises
For fake reviews, Google says a profile can lose the ability to receive new reviews for a set period and can show a warning that fake reviews were removed.
The FTC rule on consumer reviews and testimonials (16 CFR Part 465), in force since October 21, 2024, targets fake reviews, reviews bought to express a particular sentiment and threats used to suppress reviews. FTC staff say the rule alone does not ban every incentive, and Google's rule is stricter, so follow Google's. This is not legal advice.
A request tool is a faster way to ask the same people, so ask every customer and do not choose who gets the link. A feedback step that sends happy customers to Google and unhappy ones to the business is the selective asking Google bars. How to get more Google reviews gives the steps.
Replying: drafts, templates and the limits of automation
Localo drafts a reply from the rating and the review text, with 20 templates, four for each star rating, and you press reply to publish it. Localo says Google discourages fully automated replies, so read each draft before it is sent. Localo's reply drafts can be tried for 14 days with no card if the account and profile are new to it.
Google's reply rules still apply: the business must be verified, and replies should be conversational, not promotional. Google reviews each reply before it appears, usually within 10 minutes. How to respond to Google reviews has the steps.
Watching for removed and fake reviews
Localo's review tool lists the reviews that Google removed. GatherUp's Review Defense is a separate product about review authenticity, from $45 a month per location billed annually, sold only on an annual commitment. GatherUp says review platforms make the final removal decisions.
Google says to report a review only if it breaks Google's policies, never because you disagree with it, and evaluation typically takes several days. An honest negative review that follows the policy is not eligible for removal, so a monitor is not a way to make criticism disappear.
