How to stop edits on Google Business Profile: watch suggested changes and reverse them fast

Last reviewed October 30, 2026

Quick answerWatch the profile for suggested changes to its name, phone, address and open status, and undo wrong ones fast, by hand or with a tool that alerts you or reverses them within minutes.

How to stop edits on Google Business Profile: the short answer

To stop unwanted edits on a Google Business Profile, watch the name, phone, address and open status and undo anything wrong straight away, because Google says it may receive suggested edits from users. You can always update the profile directly. A tool such as Localo or Whitespark can alert you or reverse a wrong edit, and the fourth section prices them.

In the profile editor, blue text marks information changed by Google. Google also says you cannot manage every Google update through the profile.

Where unwanted edits come from

Localo's protection page names the changes that cause trouble: marking the business permanently closed, or changing its phone number, address or name, through Google's Suggest an edit option.

Google notifies owners of some suggested edits and gives you 4 days to accept or reject. If you do not respond, Google may publish an edit that public information supports. Google may also apply some edits without prior review to meet its policy guidelines.

Checking the profile by hand

  1. Open More, then Notifications, and switch on the business info alerts, which remind you to keep information up to date.
  2. Each week, check the name, phone, address and open status. Reject or correct anything wrong within the 4 days.
  3. Claim every location, since Google says unclaimed ones are more exposed.
  4. Limit who has access, remove former employees, deny access requests from people you do not know, and turn on 2-Step Verification.

If you manage a profile for a client, keep the client informed of every change. Google's third-party policy says that taking automated actions to discard suggested updates without consulting the merchant violates its terms, so check with the business owner first.

Localo ProtectionIn every plan; Single Business $39 a month billed monthlyReverses name, phone, address, closed-status edits in 15 minutes, Localo says

Localo's Business Profile protection, on every plan, catches and reverses suggested edits to the name, phone, address and closed status within 15 minutes, as Localo says. Localo says it reverses them before Google publishes, and that changes made from a connected Google account count as legitimate. Localo vs Whitespark prices both approaches. Protection is part of the 14-day trial for eligible new accounts.

Read Localo's 15 minutes as its own claim, not a guarantee.

What protection does not cover

Localo documents protection for the name, phone, address and closed status, and does not document reversal of hours, categories, photos, the description or the website. Whitespark's field list is wider and includes categories, website and hours. Falcon Guard watches hours, categories and 20+ other fields, and its page documents alerts, not reversal. Localo's help article still tells owners to watch for unexpected changes themselves. Localo review covers the rest of the product.

If the profile is suspended instead

A suspension is a different problem from an edit. Google's steps: open the appeals tool, pick the profile and the decision, add evidence such as official business registration, and submit. An appeal can be submitted only once, so attach the evidence the first time. Do not create a new profile for the same business. Google answers by email.

Google says it will never try to convince you to pay for verification or reinstatement. Whitespark, a third party, charges $599 per reinstatement project and says it cannot guarantee the outcome because Google decides. Localo does not document suspension recovery. Localo vs Google sets Localo against Google's own tools.
